I know, I know. I've been there twice already but I really want to go again. |
“Don’t you want to go there again?”
“Nope, been there, done that.”
Sorry, I'm not crossing Paris off my list either. |
√ Take my parents to the Devils Racetrack in Death Valley.
√ Stay up all night comforting my sick child.
√ Train a dog (miss you Koa).
√ Track desert tortoises with my brother.
√ Take care of a friend’s yard who is sick with cancer.
√ Snuggle with both my kids in one reclining lawn chair watching the night sky
for falling stars until we all fall asleep.

I love this post. Beautiful words, Ross.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sam.
ReplyDeleteHappy to have found your blog and this particular post. Could not have said it better. I feel this way about these lists too. In fact I feel this way about cruises and bus tours ... the whole idea that these experiences, places ... are "just" something you tick off a list makes me cringe. I cracked up at your "that's Italy off my list" example, because just this morning my colleague returned from Nepal and said...? Yep you guessed it! AAAAAARH!!
ReplyDeleteWe travel with our dog Montecristo - that's out thing. And we have returned to some places more than once. That is OKAY.( Tuscany is UBER pet friendly!) We got to meet people, create friendships, build a network. Discover a place beyond the "big tourist sites". We prefer renting apartments and "living" someplace for a while. Of course our sailing trip around the Med will be different - but even then --- I am happy to drop anchor in some unknown, never heard of town. If that is what my heart tells me to do. Even if it means I don’t get to “check off” some better known site of a list. So thanks for this post!
... oh and rather awesome photo of Paris.
That's great that you travel with your dog. Wish I had more time to travel so I could stay in one place for a while. Maybe someday.
